Can a vase without a flower still have a purpose?
LightFlower No.01 featured an intricate and time-consuming hand-laid multicolor leaf on the stem…
LightFlower
LightFlower is a very specific answer to the question, “can an empty vase still provide value?”
Designed to hold a single sunflower and mirror its anatomy with translucent acrylic petals, LightFlower illumninates by the touch of one of its six leaves.
Each LightFlower is a bespoke commission, not a mass-produced “lamp,” with a form-factor intentionally uncompromised by traditional functional or manufacturing considerations - in essence creating a piece that is more art than product design.
The upper body is 3D printed in one single piece and then treated to hold water, while the laser-cut acrylic petals rings are individually hand-shaped with heat, mimicking the organic, random arrangements of sunflowers’ yellow petals.
Because each LightFlower is largely hand-built and finished, there is almost unlimited potential to match a client’s specifications. From varying translucencies in the upper body, to alternative petal colors, to personal laser-engraved touches on the internal components, LightFlower can be an expression of one’s unique aesthetic and a focal point of any space, whether or not it’s holding a flower, day or night.

Function Disguised as Form
Above all else, LightFlower was designed with an obsession to maximally integrate function into its sculptural form. That’s why the on/off leaf is completely unmarked, and can only be distinguished from the other five by taking the time to learn and recognize its distinctive shape.
Below it’s glowing petals, a hidden USB port allows the charging of a connected device such as a smartphone or watch, adding a simple but useful function without sacrificing LightFlower’s organic, uninterrupted form.
LightFlower “Galaxy” features a subtly translucent and glittering upper paired with non-traditional petal colors for a cosmic interpretation of the original.
